living landscapes game

With this card game, we learn how every part of a landscape is connected with its surroundings. For example, leaves provide mulch matter instead of being considered as an annoying waste,  some insects can be useful as predators on pests, they could provide pollination, or may be food for domestic animals such as pigs and poultry…

It covers 2 important principles of permaculture and can be adapted to your own lifestyle by adding or leaving out some cards.

This game is co-operative. All players contribute to a common design. Each player adds his own ideas, through the cards he has and through the discussions the game tends to encourage.

Living Landscapes consists of 52 cards each with a reproduction of original water colour painting and 2 blank cards for your own input: you can add your own landscape image. The cards also have the common signs and numbers to play many of your favorite card games.

For 2 to 6 players, from 4 to adults

2 playing levels: 4 - 7 years and 7 - adult.

playing time: usually 30 - 60 minutes.

What is permaculture?

Permaculture is a design system that develops sustainable and energy-productive solutions, respecting man and nature.

Two of the many principles that can help us achieve this are:

-every element has more than 1 function (e.g. domestic animals supply us with food, with manure, help us in insect control, in fire control by keeping grass low, etc.)

-supporting our needs by more than 1 element (we can store water in various ways, such as ponds, dams, rainwater tanks, swales etc.)

These 2 principles are the theme of the game.

Other permaculture principles include:

-respect for man and nature

 -supporting local economy

-recycling

-diversity

-sector planning

-turning a problem into asolution

-utilizing biological resources
